Human/Nature
An Exploration of Place, Story & Climate Futurism
A National Endowment for the Humanities summer institute on climate futurism, or imagining alternative futures for life on our planet through cli-fi, literature, and scientific inquiry. A journey starting with Octavia E. Butler's classic, Parable of the Sower, and young adult literature with teen protagonists. Human/Nature was a combined format, 3-week summer institute for 25 secondary Language Arts teachers. It featured interdisciplinary fieldwork, digital media literacy, and multimodality. Participants spent two weeks at Sonoma State University and attended five virtual meetings before and after the institute to cultivate curricular action plans.
